CHEFS CULINAR at a glance
CHEFS CULINAR is one of the leading delivery wholesalers in foodservice. The owner-managed family company, headquartered in Kiel, supplies customers from restaurants, hotels and catering throughout Germany with food and non-food articles, with several thousand employees, a network of branches and depots and a broad national product range.
The company's ambition is not only breadth of range but modern, energy-efficient logistics. New sites rely on sustainability and high-tech refrigeration — exactly the environment in which professional technical insulation co-determines energy consumption, hygiene and operational reliability. For a cutting and portioning operation for fruit and vegetables with an unbroken cold chain, that applies to a particular degree.
Why the plant builder in charge relies on IVS
One of the most modern foodservice logistics and production sites has been created for CHEFS CULINAR: a new building on around 11,400 m² of logistics and production space, realised in two construction phases. In a food operation of this size the refrigeration technology is the heart of the plant, and its insulation co-determines energy costs, hygiene and reliability. The site was demanding: a large construction site spread over several floors, technical rooms, an intermediate floor and the roof, with tight deadlines and dependencies on numerous preceding trades. For our client, the plant builder in charge, what counted was a partner who delivers cold insulation, thermal insulation, corrosion protection and fire protection from a single source. That is exactly what IVS brings: short routes, one trade, completion on schedule.What we did
In the first construction phase the focus was on the cold insulation of the brine runs, the complete brine distribution up to the 49 air coolers, including the necessary corrosion protection of the newly laid pipework. We carried this out with PUR foam and synthetic rubber together with a corrosion protection coating. The result is a condensation-free, dry installation: professional insulation prevents condensation, icing and corrosion on the cooling lines and, because moisture is kept out, mould and bacteria as well. In food production that is decisive. At the same time the loss of cooling energy falls, which reduces energy consumption, operating costs and CO₂ emissions and secures constant temperatures.
The second construction phase added the cold insulation of the refrigeration plant in three machine rooms, complemented by thermal insulation on pipework and vessels in the same rooms. Professional thermal insulation lowers heating costs and fuel demand and protects the substance of the installation, because smaller temperature fluctuations avoid thermal stresses.
The third building block was the fire protection work on the existing fire walls and ceilings, in the machine room, corridors, hall and suspended ceiling. We produced professional, standard-compliant fire wall and ceiling crossings as well as fire wall seals: a smoke-tight, fire-resistant barrier that compensates for melting effects, interrupts heat conduction in the event of fire and absorbs movement through decoupling.
