Insulated brew kettles in a brewhouse with a V2A stainless steel jacket and wort lines

Insulation for breweries and the beverage industry

From the brewhouse to the storage tank: hygienic insulation technology for the entire process chain. Stainless steel in V2A/V4A from our own prefabrication — clean, tight, food-compliant.

What breweries need from us

Breweries and beverage plants work across an unusually wide temperature range, from the hot brewhouse at over 100 °C through the fermentation cellar at 8-15 °C to storage tanks just above 0 °C. Every zone needs its own insulation system, and the transitions must not cause energy losses or hygiene problems.

Hygiene here allows no compromise: V2A and V4A stainless steel jackets from our own prefabrication, tight joints, easy-to-clean surfaces. We manufacture precisely fitting parts for brew kettles, whirlpools, mash tuns, wort coolers, cylindroconical tanks and the entire pipework system.

With the mobile surveying system our fitters record the geometry directly at the tank, transfer the data to the CNC machines in Malchin and deliver ready-to-install jackets within a few weeks. That keeps brewing cycles running without waiting times. During ongoing operation we work to hygienic standards, coordinated with cleaning windows and CIP cycles. The work is agreed and documented on a project basis.

Cold-insulated cylindroconical fermentation tanks (CCT) with a vapour barrier in a brewery

Use in breweries

Brewhouse & wort boiling: thermal insulation on the brew kettle, wort kettle, whirlpool and lauter tun. We supply a V2A stainless steel jacket with a thermally optimised insulation thickness to the AGI work sheets. The hoods and jackets are shaped so that inspection hatches, manholes, risers and sensors remain cleanly accessible. Stainless steel production takes place in our separate hall in Malchin, free of contamination and with material records for food use. For modernisations we work between brewing days, so that whole production weeks are not lost. The thermal design also takes vapour recovery into account: heat recovery feeds directly into the fermentation cellar circuit or as heating water into the CIP system. In this way you save energy not only through the insulation itself, but through a holistic heat balance for the entire brewery — an effect that often shows up in the electricity and gas bill in the very first year of operation.

Fermentation cellar & storage tanks: cold insulation with a continuous vapour barrier on cylindroconical fermentation tanks (CCT) and pressure tanks. We reliably prevent condensation, protect the tank shell against corrosion and secure stable fermentation temperatures between 8 °C and 15 °C. Choice of material: PUR/PIR rigid foam with a tight vapour barrier or mineral wool with a high-pressure sandwich, depending on the required service life and the cleaning regime. A V2A stainless steel jacket on the outside, with tight joints at cleaning rings, level gauges and sampling points. In this way the tank surface stays hygienic over the entire service life of the installation, typically 20 to 25 years, and corrosion on the tank wall is ruled out. When the tank farm is extended we coordinate with your brewing technologist, so that tank sizes, connection geometries and cleaning zones fit together logically: the insulation follows the brewery architecture, not the other way round.

CIP stations & cleaning: hygienically tight thermal insulation on hot water, caustic and acid lines. The V4A cladding withstands aggressive cleaning media (caustic soda, nitric acid, peracetic acid) and meets food hygiene requirements. We take sprinkler connections and fire wall penetrations into account and carry out penetration seals at building transitions to standard. Surveying with a mobile system directly on site, prefabrication in parallel: the actual installation work is reduced to a few shifts. That keeps the CIP system operational without delaying cleaning cycles, and the brewery keeps its audit compliance even during the modernisation. Hot water tanks and caustic tanks are given outer jackets that also minimise thermal bridges, so that the cleaning chemistry stays consistently warm and heat-up times between cycles are short.

Pipework & distributors: we insulate brine, wort, water and beer lines with an insulation build-up matched to the project. Surveying, prefabrication and installation are coordinated with shutdown and maintenance windows. For outdoor lines we choose weather-resistant metal cladding in aluminium or stainless steel and finish fittings, bends and end closures precisely.

What our customers say

Voices from breweries and beverage plants about working with IVS.

Discuss your project now

  • IVS manufactured several covers for our fire station, among them covers for radiators and equipment. In terms of surveying, execution, manufacturing and the final appearance the result is outstanding. Thank you for that on behalf of the Kummerow lakeside community. Genuine craftsmanship still exists here.

    Andre Ebeling
