Employee carrying out PUR high-pressure foaming on a pipe

PUR foaming: experience since 1990

PUR high-pressure pour foaming for closed cavities in vessels, containers, pipework and sheet metal structures – with mobile foaming units directly at the place of use.

What is PUR foaming?

In PUR high-pressure pour foaming, rigid polyurethane foam is introduced into closed, structurally defined cavities. There the material expands and forms a closed-cell insulating layer.

The process is suitable, for example, for double-walled vessels, container walls, pipework systems and suitable sheet metal structures. Geometry, filling space and material build-up are checked in advance.

IVS carries out PUR high-pressure pour foaming with mobile units at the place of use or in combination with our own sheet metal prefabrication.

Modern PUR-foamed industrial installation with an insulated vessel and pipework

Where is PUR foaming used?

Vessels and containers: storage vessels, process tanks, special containers and double-walled structures are completely filled with pour foam. The process reaches every cavity and produces continuous, seamless insulation without thermal bridges, even with complex internal shapes.

Pipework and plant components: closed cavities in double-walled pipe and sheet metal structures can be filled with PUR high-pressure pour foam. The prerequisite is a structurally suitable, defined filling space; geometry and build-up are checked in advance.

Shipbuilding and maritime installations: IVS has been a firm partner for fishing trawlers, cruise ships and maritime refrigeration technology since the 1990s. At sea there are particular requirements for vibration resistance and tightness, which PUR high-pressure foaming meets thanks to its seamless structure.

Food and deep-freeze industry: cold rooms, reactors, mixers and all hygienically demanding installations benefit from the combination of a PUR core insulation and stainless steel prefabrication. On-site surveying, prefabrication in Malchin and foaming by our trained PUR specialists: everything from a single source.

Industries for PUR

From the food and deep-freeze industry through shipbuilding to container and plant manufacturing — wherever seamless insulation with a complex geometry is required, PUR high-pressure foaming brings practical advantages. We know the typical requirements of every industry.

  • Dairy processing

Condensation-free insulation systems for CIP plants, pasteurisers and storage tanks. Cleanable V4A execution to HACCP requirements, feasible during ongoing dairy operation.

  • Food processing

HACCP-compliant insulation for meat, fish, bakery and deep-freeze production. Stainless steel jackets in V2A or V4A, hygienically closed and ready for audits.

  • Logistics & cold storage centres

Energy efficiency and active fire protection for cold stores and logistics centres.

  • Biogas plants

Thermal, fire protection and acoustic insulation for digesters, vessels, pipework and CHP components – planned on a project basis and executed to withstand the weather.

Foams & processes

In the PUR process we use closed-cell rigid polyurethane foams with low lambda values and a strong vapour barrier effect. Depending on the application we use different foam densities: higher density on mechanically loaded components, lighter foams for pure thermal or cold insulation.

The high-pressure foaming units process the components at precisely set pressure and temperature, so that the mixing ratio is right and the foam develops the correct mechanical and thermal properties. Used mobile, this lets us reach complex sites too — at shipyards, in industrial halls or in food production.

Our execution follows the project-specific requirements, the manufacturer data of the PUR systems used and the technical rules relevant to the respective application. We match the choice of material to the medium temperature, the component geometry, the mechanical load and the ambient conditions.

Our PUR foaming specialists are specifically qualified professionals: we train for the job ourselves, because the open market hardly offers it. That is how we secure the quality of every foaming operation, from preparing the mixture through the application technique to the finishing work.

What our customers say

Voices from industry and cold store operations on PUR foaming.

  • IVS manufactured several covers for our fire station, among them covers for radiators and equipment. In terms of surveying, execution, manufacturing and the final appearance the result is outstanding. Thank you for that on behalf of the Kummerow lakeside community. Genuine craftsmanship still exists here.
