Technical thermal insulation is the fundamental measure for avoiding energy losses on hot installations, pipework and vessels. It keeps process temperatures stable, protects staff from hot surfaces and is what makes industrial installations economically operable in the first place. We supply economical insulation thickness calculations in order to meet the occupational safety requirements for surface temperature — otherwise there is a risk of burns and constant heat losses. The insulation thickness is calculated from the medium temperature, the required surface temperature and the ambient conditions: at high temperatures we use high-temperature-resistant insulation materials, at moderate heat you save with thinner layers or mineral wool systems. For very hot installations we use multi-layer high-temperature systems. Cladding is done with aluminium, galvanised steel or stainless steel sheet, depending on the environment and the corrosion load. Where required we supply the cladding parts from our own V2A/V4A stainless steel prefabrication, cut ready for installation. Our execution follows the project-specific requirements as well as the technical rules relevant to the respective system and application. The choice of material depends on medium temperature, surface temperature and ambient conditions; lambda values form the basis of the insulation thickness calculation. The higher the temperature and the longer the installation runs, the faster the payback. We supply the economic calculation as part of the planning. The insulation thickness is calculated from the medium temperature, the desired surface temperature, the ambient conditions and the economic target. The calculation basis and boundary conditions used are agreed on a project-by-project basis. Depending on the temperature range we use mineral wool, calcium silicate or high-temperature-resistant special insulation materials. We manufacture the cladding from aluminium, galvanised steel or stainless steel (V2A/V4A from our own prefabrication), depending on the environment and the corrosion load. That depends on the medium temperature, the size of the installation and its previous condition: on uninsulated or poorly insulated installations, double-digit energy savings are common. We calculate exact figures individually for your installation on the basis of the insulation thickness and lambda values. The cladding protects the insulation itself against weather, mechanical loads and damage. It also gives the insulation the clean appearance expected in plant engineering.
